چکیده
Abstract Aim To assess the management of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in patients with a pre-operative B5c histopathological diagnosis. Method A retrospective study decision for SLNB 31 breast cancer and their final histology were reviewed between 2009-2019. Factors that determine concurrent (size mass lesion > 1cm/increasing size, DCIS 4cm, recurrence abnormal nodes on ultrasound) assessed. Results 15 (48%) invasive disease 7 (23%) non-invasive had SLNB, whilst 9 (29%) did not receive no patient (0%) failed to SLNB. Using above inclusion exclusion criteria 21 (68%) would have been managed correctly 5 (16%) unnecessary surgery required second operation. Discussion In this study, 48% identified as avoided Although 23% underwent SNLB, SLNBs missed. Solely using improved results. This suggests there must be other factors involved managing these patients. Conclusion Discussions about risk benefits SLN complications vs repeat surgery, comorbidity, addition radiological characteristics, may assist decisions.

Should a Sentinel Node Biopsy Be Performed in Patients with High-Risk Breast Cancer?
A negative sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy spares many breast cancer patients the complications associated with lymph node irradiation or additional surgery. However, patients at high risk for nodal involvement based on clinical characteristics may remain at unacceptably high risk of axillary disease even after a negative SLN biopsy result. A Bayesian nomogram was designed to combine the proba...

The concept of breast sentinel node biopsy is based on the assumption that a breast cancer that metastasizes through the lymphatics will initially reach one or a few nodes in the corresponding lymph basin. The status of this or these sentinel node(s) will predict the status of all the other nodes in the basin. The sentinel node can be found stained blue or as being radioactive by injecting blue...

The axillary lymph node status is the most reliable prognostic indicator of recurrence and overall survival in patients with breast cancer. The current standard surgical procedure for the management of invasive breast cancer is the complete removal of the cancer with total axillary clearance. However, recently, selective sentinel lymph node mapping and biopsy is gaining acceptance as a useful a...

OBJECTIVES To report our experience in sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in early breast cancer. METHODS This is a retrospective study conducted at King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between January 2005 and December 2014. There were 120 patients who underwent SLNB with frozen section examination. Data collected included the characteristics of patients, index tu...
